The gameplay builds on the foundation established by its predecessors, with an emphasis on the multiple play styles offered by Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Men. The game expands on their existing traversal and combat abilities, including new web-based gadgets and suits that can be unlocked through progressing in the story. It also introduces the former Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, granting Parker unique abilities from his previous playable appearance. F168 -Man 2 is an action-packed, open-world superhero game that expands on its predecessor with improved gameplay, fluid combat mechanics, and dynamic web-swinging across New York City. Critics highlight its captivating story, compelling characters, and impressive visuals.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delivers an incredible story about heroes and villains grappling with loneliness. Spider-Man 2 feels like it’s right in the centre of Sony’s blockbuster sequel design philosophy. Where Horizon Forbidden West did the same thing but bigger, The Last of Us Part 2 elevated itself technologically, narratively, and most importantly, ambitiously. Spider-Man 2 falls between these approaches – it has some of Horizon’s safety, but with a slice of the elevation The Last of Us brought. Spider-Man 2 is the future of polished, competent, elevated sequels, and brings with it so many technical flourishes and a perfect execution of the formula that it stands in a class of its own.
Like Batman having to save Mr. Freeze from The Penguin so he can make a cure for Joker. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have changed since their previous games, which means how they play has also evolved. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned web-head to their slick moves, there’s plenty to get stuck into.
A More Accessible Spider-man Experience
Miles overcomes his anger towards Li and helps him escape, directing him to find Peter. Despite the disappointment, it’s unlikely that any DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would’ve been very exciting. All of which brings us to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC system requirements, with Sony’s minimum specification targeting 720p at 30fps on Very Low settings. Those with considerably more powerful hardware (which is to say, an RTX 4090 and i K/Ryzen X3D) can aim for 60fps at 4K resolutions, using Very High Ray Tracing Ultimate settings.
Sadly, the excitement around its release has been soured by poor optimizations. This is one of those cases where more time in development could have prevented the majority of the problems it’s facing now. Hosted by Lorraine Cink and Ryan “Agent M” Penagos, swing back into the news.
Shop the range of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition PS5® products with a symbiote takeover design inspired by the game. As the story continues, we see several worlds colliding in the lives of Miles, Peter, and MJ. Miles, a student at Brooklyn Visions Academy, sees all of his friends solidifying their plans for college—but he is feeling left out.
News & Features
On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands.
Release
These characters do add a bit more flavour to the world and its largely homogenous population of NPCs you’re clearly not intended to look at too closely. These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. Despite being awash with paramilitary criminal organisations, New York has never felt more toothless and dull. My hope for this sequel was that with the core action already perfected, there would be the space to improve on the wider formula, creating a more interesting New York playground. Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 simply has more stuff—a bigger story, more pointless collectibles, sprawling skill trees, and double the Spider-Men. Despite its imperfections and overall lack of side content as well as a rushed third act the gameplay is near perfect in every way possible.
